The AP is mad as hell, and it's not going to allow Internet pirates to run off with its content anymore. The venerable news agency has decided to use an electronic beacon to track the use of its property online and take action to stop the loss of potential ad revenues. The technology is designed to expose unlicensed publishers; it will not monitor who's reading what, the AP emphasized.

So far, no golden egg has been discovered in the Twitter bird's nest, but the company's leaders have been projecting a relaxed attitude on the subject of monetization, apparently believing that if they build something with sufficient value, the profits will come. Twitter 101, a new guide for business users of the microblogging site, may represent a first step toward revenue.
